titleThe Madden Curse – Why Brett Favre May Be the First to Break It!/titlepTo all the uninformed out there, the football season has a curse lurking over its shoulder. A lot of athletes refuse to acknowledge it, but it does exist. The evidence is too overwhelming. Of course we are talking about the Madden Curse./ppWhat is the so-called Madden Curse you might ask? Well the madden curse is what happens to whatever athlete is displayed on the cover of the newest edition of the hugely popular John Madden football video game series. What happens? Quite simply, they get injured! They might get injured for 1 game, or in the example of the Atlanta Falcons ex-quarterback Michael Vick, they lose their athletes for damn near the whole year! Michael Vick was the featured athlete on Madden 04 and was lost to the Atlanta falcons on a knee injury during their 04-05 season! It doesnt matter the severity of the injury or the length of the injury, it seems that as long as the athlete is injured, the Madden Curse is satisfied! A little known fact is that not only does the Madden Curse affect the featured athlete on the cover, it also affects the team that the athlete is on!/ppCase in point, the 2006 cover of Madden featured quarterback Donovan Mcnabb of the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles were fresh from their Super Bowl run the year before against the New England Patriots, (well get into that later) and expectations were high among Eagle fans (myself included), for the team to return to the Super Bowl, and this time to win! Unfortunately, it was not to be. I knew that this was going to be a bad year because of the Madden Curse. And when I mentioned this to those less informed I was told, Youre crazy! Were going all the way to the Super Bowl!. That years Eagle team barely made the playoffs and we lost Donovan Mcnabb for a good part of the season to various injuries. Now the New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was susposed to be on the cover of that years Madden also. And at the last minute, for whatever reason, respectfully declined. Think about it. The New England Patriots had the monicker of Dynasty put on them after their win against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl because this was their third Super Bowl win in four seasons. So Dynasty was an accurate title for the team. But during that whole Dynasty run, not ONE member of the Super Bowl winning Patriots was on the cover of any Madden from 02 to 06. Isnt that odd to you? That a Super Bowl quarterback wouldnt want to be featured on the cover of Madden! According to quite a few of NFL athletes, being featured on the cover of Madden is one of the highest honors that can happen to you as an NFL player! Why wouldnt a Super Bowl winning quarterback be featured on the cover of the most popular football video game in the world? Hmmmmm……/ppIt was also rumored that in the same year, MVP of the 2006 NFL season, running back Ladanian Thomas entire fan base in San Diego signed a petition against him being on the cover of Madden because they didnt want him to get hurt. Coincidence? I think not! If you were to go and investigate from the year that NFL athletes were first put on the cover of Madden, you will find that everyone of the featured athletes were injured in that particular year. There are entirely to many examples to reference to give proof to the Madden Curse and we could go on and on but instead I will give you a reason why Brett Favre may be the first to break it!/ppBrett Favres off season activities were the result of a man that had not searched himself before retiring. His retirement in my opinion, was a emotional decision instead of a physical one. Because of this, Brett Favre retired too early, and upon realizing that he had made a mistake, decided that he wanted to come back! Only one problem, the Green Bay Packers had moved on! And because of this, Brett Favre is now a New York Jet! If you look at the cover of Madden 09, its Brett Favre on the cover in a Green Bay Packer uniform. As I said before, it seems that the Madden Curse only effects the athlete and the team, if he is on the SAME team throughout the year. Because Brett is now on the New York Jets, we are in new territory here! Does that mean that Green Bays new quarterback AAron Rogers is going to have a bad year? Does this mean that the Green Bay Packers are destined to have a bad year? We dont know! We do know that Brett Favre is on the cover in a Green bay uniform and because of this I think that the curse will finally be broken! It could mean that the New York Jets could have a bad year! I dont know whats going to happen! But it will be an interesting year. Just hope that next year your favorite NFL athlete is not on the cover of Madden!/ppKen White writes on various video game related subjects. titleRed Sky at Night/titlepRed sky at night, shepherds delight. Red in the morning, shepherds warning.brThis is probably the most famous of weather folklore and, as is so often the case, has been passed down through generations but has some basis in truth. As the sun sinks slowly down to the horizon at the end of the day, the colour of the sky depends on the nature of the air that the sunlight passes through. When the air is dry dust particles will be carried in the air absorbing and scattering the suns light causing it to appear red./ppBecause of the spinning of the earth as the sun sets in the west this is also the direction of the prevailing winds, so in effect the sunlight is passing through air that is heading our way (this is for the mid-latitudes at least). So a red sky at night indicates drier weather on the way.brHowever a red sky in the morning indicates that the drier air is off to the east and it is likely that a front and more disturbed weather is heading in from the west. (This explains why the saying is more relevant to the mid-latitudes). So the shepherds had it right all along!/ppThere are of course many other weather sayings some of which have basis in fact, some of which are totally wrong (for instance cows do not lie down if it is about to rain!).brAnother lore which could be a good guide is the idea of counting how many seconds elapse between a lightning flash and the sound of thunder to measure how far away a storm is. As it is the expansion of the superheated air around a lightning flash that causes the clap of thunder, and the speed of light (299,792,458 m/s) is so much quicker than the speed of sound (340 m/s), then this can be used as a rough guide./ppOther weather folklore which have been built through generations of observation include:/ppRain before seven, fine by elevenbrClear moon, frost soonbrNo weather is ill, if the wind is stillbrwhen forest murmurs and mountains roar, close the windows and shut the doors/ppOne of the more interesting and popular weather lores is Its raining cats and dogsĀ. The origins of this saying are difficult to trace. One theory is that cats and dogs (and other small animals) would live nestled in the warmth of a thatched roof. When it rained particularly heavily they would be washed out of the roof. Another idea is that heavy rains in the dirty streets of 17th century England would wash dead animals along the roads along with other debris. The animals hadnt fallen from the sky but this could have helped coin the expression./ppHowever rational or obvious a saying may be, it can never 100% predict the weather. But these sayings have become part of our everyday language and it is easy to understand that in the past when people lived and worked on the land that these sayings would be very important to them as a very early means of predicting the weather./ppMark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on A target=_new href=http://www.agloriousfuture.comthe weather/A. titleConnective Presence – Three Steps to Being at Home in Front of Groups/titlepNot everyone has severe stage fright or fear of public speaking. Many people tell me the first few minutes of a talk or speech are filled with tension and anxiety. But, they say that once they get past the first five or ten minutes, they feel OK. When I ask them to evaluate what happens in the first few minutes, they realize that it is making genuine connection with listeners that allows them to relax and share their ideas./ppFor years I struggled with stage fright and fear of public speaking. My struggles led me to develop ways to manage my tension and eventually to create a method that transforms the tension of stage fright. One of the greatest things I have learned is how to consciously generate connective presence before I start to talk. As a result, I now feel at home and comfortable from the very first minute of a talk. There is no waiting to get comfortable or hoping to get relaxed since I have learned to be present with audiences. There is just a stepping into being with my audience from the first moment. All my efforts can then be put into building deeper and deeper rapport with listeners and on sharing myself fully with them./ppHere is how you can create connective presence at your next opportunity to speak up or to speak in front of a group. The following steps will help you to manage your tension, intention and attention so that comfortable connection is a natural outcome of your presence./ppFirst, get yourself into a state of presence by focusing your awareness on being in your body. Simply place your attention in each part of your body, one part at a time. Start by focusing your attention inside your head for 5 or 10 seconds. Be aware of being in your head. Then focus in your neck, then your chest, etc, working your attention all the way down to your feet. You will notice that energy flows where ever you put your attention. By the time you get to your feet, you will be grounded in your body, feeling connected to yourself, filled with energy and present to the moment./ppNext, set your intention to care about your listeners. Decide to love them rather than worrying about whether they will like you or not. Decide to be there for them to share your ideas, insights, expertise and talents./ppFinally, open yourself to receiving their attention. As you step into the center of attention, be intentional about taking in their attention as support. You will literally sense their energy coming towards you. When you can take their energy in, there is no need to defend, protect or deflect their attention. It simply comes into you, filling you up with a bodily-felt sense of support. You are now in a state of connective presence, being with your listeners and ready to share your ideas./ppManaging tension is about consciously focusing human energy through intention and attention. It is what athletes do to get into the ideal performance state so they can play their best game. If athletes can learn this skill, then so can you. Try it and report back to me. If you need some help with grounding in your body, try my Grounding Meditation to support the process of developing your own connective presence./ppSandra Zimmer is the President and Founder of The Self-Expression Center in Houston, Texas. Jose Mourinho was announced as the new manager of Inter Milan and I for one would like to welcome the special one back to the realms of football. Jose is quite a character and has been truly missed by those who love the sport of football.

Mourinho breathed new life into the world of English football when he took over as the manager of Chelsea and I am sure that he will have a similar positive affect on the Italian football league.

The majority of the supporters of Chelsea would love Mourinho to be back in charge of their league in the future and now has legend status at Stamford Bridge.

So what can Jose Mourinho bring to Inter Milan? Passion, pride, success and winning football is the answer. Mourinho has already been victorious in the ever popular Champions league and this will no doubt be his goal for the coming season. Who would beat against a Chelsea versus Inter Milan final next season? Football seems to make these types of events happen.

The Inter Milan supporters sure have a lot to look forward to. Their will be frills and spills as well as a huge amount of entertainment. Just listening to what Jose has to say pre and post match is fascinating in itself.

Going back to Chelsea I have heard rumors that Zola could well be on his way back in some capacity. This is just a rumor at the moment but this itself would really please the Chelsea supporters as well as the rest of the English football public.

Good luck Jose Mourinho; I look forward to hearing and watching your antics next year. Perhaps one day you might even manage my favourite team, Birmingham City – some how I doubt it however.

Airsoft is an extremely interesting sport that is very popular with both children and adults alike. Part of what makes airsoft so intriguing is its highly realistic look and feel of actual weaponry without the real potential of death or serious injury. Many of the airsoft pistols and rifles look so much like actual guns that they cannot be identified as toys, except for the bright orange tip that is required by law. This makes airsoft pistols in particular, a great tool for training for men and women in law enforcement. With the comparable dimensions, weight, look and feel of an actual handgun or rifle, the officer in training is getting a great idea of what using the real thing is all about.

Due to their close resemblance to actual handguns, officers can holster the airsoft guns just as they would a real one, and can pull and fire just like a real weapon as well. Gas airsoft pistols have the advantage over spring airsoft pistols here because they can actually recoil after firing, just like a real gun. These guns are called blow-back guns, which mirror the recoil of the real thing. Of course, it goes without saying that the recoil you feel when firing the airsoft pistol will be substantially less than firing an actual handgun, it does help to mimic the same action, helping officers in training get used to the motion.

Now, you may be thinking, why use airsoft to train, when you can do target practice with the real thing? Well that is a good question. But think about higher end police training, such as running scenarios dealing with sociopaths, or terrorists, kidnappings, or any other high end thinking situations. Situations like these demand a realistic training environment, where real people pretend to be the offenders or kidnapped parties, while the training officers have to move and think through the situation. You definitely do not want to have real bullets involved with this kind of training! So you see, any one of these training operations listed is excellent situations in which airsoft pistols are the perfect tool for the job.

While airsoft usually involves small, plastic BBs, there are actually 6mm paintballs that can be used in lieu of the typical plastic BBs. So during these training exercises, you can still get the splat of a paintball to accurately identify where a team member has been hit, as well as getting the real life action of the airsoft gun. Another great advantage of using airsoft pistols for police training is that they are much less expensive than paintball guns or other handguns used for training. It is easy to see how airsoft pistols can be the perfect tool for police officers and other members of law enforcement in training situations.

When it comes to public speaking or presenting in front of a huge audience, the more you face the public the better you get at speaking live. Initially you may fumble, you may develop those nervous sweats, but once you keep repeating your acts, you subconsciously develop that skill.

I had been teaching many students from a very young age, i.e. since I was just 16 yrs. I had developed the skill of interacting with the audience while I used to teach. The duty of a teacher is get your thoughts across your students in the most effective manner possible, the same goes for a presentation too; in fact teaching itself is a form of presentation.

The moment you go for by hearting your presentation, you generally fall into the most likely trap of developing the fear of forgetting your presentation. Use your presentation slides as an aid to remember points for your presentation, the rest should be there in your mind, which you can explain the way you feel comfortable with. Always remember the more you are comfortable with the presentation, the more effectiveness is added to your presentation.

Interact with the audience and add liveliness to your presentation. Give your presentation a form of discussion. The more you involve your audience the better response you receive and this leads to boosting your confidence. Being formal is a part of a presentation but slight informality adds life to your presentation, and shapes it the way you wanted it to be.

While making a presentation always remember that, if the audience has knowledge of about 10% on the topic of your presentation, then after your presentation they should know at least 75% of the topic. This is possible only when you have adequate knowledge of the topic. Superficial preparations generally tend to cause the unnecessary nervousness. To speak 10 words on stage, you need to know 100 word of your topic.

Finally get yourself charged up before the presentation. You only have to say to yourself repeatedly that I have worked for this presentation and right now I just want my efforts to bear fruits, and nothing can stop me from doing that. When you have developed the required passion for your presentation, it reflects in your presentation, and your thoughts are effectively conveyed.

Also when you develop the required skills for presenting, which should come with practice, do not give up presenting whenever you get a chance to do so. A break as long as 3-4 months can also make you develop cold feet after facing the audience after a long time. So it’s better to always keep the ball rolling.

The sport of women’s beach volleyball is more than just fun in the sun on the sandy beaches of the American coastline. It may have started out that way, but over the last twenty years, the game has grown into a full-blown sport that is now a Summer Olympic sport. A hybrid of indoor volleyball, beach volleyball – especially on a competitive level – is only played with two people instead of a team of six. The rules are little different and they include some interesting hand signals to help the players. Here we will take a look at women’s beach volleyball and how it has grown into such a popular sport.

Santa Monica, California is the home of beach volleyball. It started in the 1920s and quickly spread to Europe. By the 1960s the first professional beach volleyball league was attempted. It failed in the United States, but was a success in France where the first professional tournament was held. In 1960 the first organized American tournament was held on Manhattan Beach in Southern California. It was a huge success, getting touted as the ‘Wimbledon of Beach Volleyball’. Within ten years, professional tournaments in Santa Monica found sponsors in beer and cigarette companies.

Players continued to hone their volleyball skills and the game became extremely popular in the 1980s. International beach volleyball tournaments became more and more commonplace with the United States, Brazil, and Australia becoming the three heavyweight nations of the sports. European countries and China became interested in this summer sport, one that became extremely popular among the women in the world. The 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona exhibited the sport and it became an official sport of the Olympics in 1996. The women’s beach volleyball events have garnered gold medals once for each of the three heavyweight countries since.

The basic volleyball rules that govern women’s beach volleyball are very similar to those used in standard indoor volleyball. The two man team in beach volleyball must score a point by forcing the ball to ground on the opponent’s court. They can also score a point when the opposing team commits a fault – an error or illegal action. The ball can only be touched three times before it must cross the net and the contact must be made consecutively by the two players. The game is played on a sandy surface instead of a hard court that is slightly smaller than an indoor court. There are other minor differences between the two games and the beach volleyball is actually a bit larger and softer than the standard indoor ball. Also, players play in their bare feet.

Volleyball drills are important for players of beach volleyball as some of the minor differences have more to do with how the ball is volleyed across the net. Players of women’s beach also use hand signals behind their backs to help their partner on the court know what type of play they intend to make once the ball is served. These hand signals can be given with one or both hands and when used wisely, they can make all the difference in the world to the outcome of a women’s beach volleyball match.

Last week in a brainstorming session, we tossed around the idea of what would happen to the cell phone network once WI-Max arrived and all cell devices would be switched over to VOIP on the WI-Max network. Essentially, all cell phone companies would need to get quickly into this technology. And then one of the group mentioned that satellite feeds were already making their way to broadband and that it wouldn’t be long before everyone had access to satellite TV on their PC. And why would you want that?

As millions know, satellite TV is a subscription based product that you must pay for every month. If you add another room in your house, you pay for another receiver or feed. What most don’t know is that there is satellite TV available for the PC as well and there is no monthly fee built-in. The way this business model is monetized is through the sale of the aggregator software that you install on your PC. No extra equipment – just a broadband connection and you’re all set to watch some 2000 channels of video from around the globe. Thousand have already jumped on board, but is it legal?

One of the systems we put to the test is the Satellite TV for PC 2008 Elite Edition. They claim 3000 channels, but not all are broadcasting at the same time so it was a little hit or miss. There are thousands of great channels and you may find some local networks with shows you normally watch on your TV. The system is not hacked or illegal – and there is a support team that can help you if you ever have a challenge with the software. We found that it downloaded quickly and was easy to install. There was no extra hardware to purchase as the player uses your computer speakers and screen.

One great feature, as reviewed on a Satellite TV software site is that you can take the program wherever you go. Installed on a notebook computer and wherever you travel, you’ll have your satellite channels. And if you enjoy foreign programming you’re in for a treat. There are over 78 countries represented with dozens of channels from world famous networks. You can even watch these as you travel overseas, provided you have a high speed connection. The Elite Edition has more channels than its predecessor and has an improved interface.

Once you pay for the software, you’re done. That covers the life of the software and no additional payments are required. In fact we thought it was interesting that they didn’t have a download fee for the software. Even though there are hundreds of news and variety programs, you will find a great deal of sports channels and will be delighted with the line-up. Especially with the Olympics – you will be able to see the coverage from other nations involved.

One thing you must remember before purchasing is to make sure you can get a money-back guarantee and we were pleased to find that the Satellite TV for PC 2008 Elite Edition had just that – 90 days, no questions asked. And that’s pretty good.

Most legit programs offer a money-back guarantee. With that in mind, I’ve checked out many of the current Satellite TV for PC programs and offer my opinion on the top three. Discover what I found by visiting my website.

It was brisk sunny autumn day along the banks of the Ohio river on Sunday afternoon. What a beautiful day for football at Paul Brown stadium in Cincinnati. Unless you were rooting for the Bengals that is. Or worse yet if you are employed by the Bengals.

Coming off of their bye week, the Steelers were happy to have this dress rehearsal in order to get their legs back under them and get ready to return to their NFL season. Clearly the Bengals are not an NFL team at present.

The Pittsburgh defense took advantage of the lying dog called the Bengals by pounding them all day. They held the Bengal offense to a total of 212 yards. The Michigan “twins”, LaMarr Woodley and Lawrence Timmons I think thought they were back at school playing Ohio State. Each of them ended a great afternoon with spirited play and 2 sacks each. Lawrence Timmons had 10 tackles, 7 of which were solo. James Farrior also had double digit tackles with 11, 6 of which were solo. James Harrison continues to prove he is the gas pedal of the Pittsburgh defense by introducing himself to the Cincinnati QB Ryan Fitzpatrick all day. By half time Ryan Fitzpatrick was rumored to have asked his head coach Marvin Lewis if he could go back to carrying the clip board. In response Lewis said “heck you can have my job!”

The offense got some reps in with Ben Roethlisberger having a productive afternoon. His 17 for 28 for 216 yards with 2 touchdowns looked very efficient. The big boy got some serious contributions from Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes and Nate Washington. Ward once again demonstrates that he is a premier wide out in this league. Holmes for his part showed exceptional balance touching the turf a few times to stay on his feet. Washington has solidified his role as a deep threat.

The even bigger story though for the Pittsburgh offense was Mewelde Moore. Moore showed signs while in Minnesota that he can carry the load in the backfield if called upon. Now with the Steelers he is proving it again. On Sunday his 120 yards from 20 carries was very impressive. He added 5 receptions for 14 yards. Mewelde scored twice running and once catching the ball giving him 3 TD’s on the day. Moore has 238 yards this season on 46 carries. That compares quite well to Willie Parker’s 263 yards on 66 carries. Bringing Moore to Pittsburgh was a result of the Vikings drafting Adrian Peterson and keeping Chester Taylor as his back-up. That left Moore as the odd man out. Head coach Mike Tomlin had a personal relationship with Moore when he was a defensive coordinator in Minnesota. So when Mewelde was looking for work Tomlin said “come on over here.” Now with the injuries to Willie Parker and rookie Rashard Mendenhall out for the year, Moore is going to get the bulk of the workload out of the backfield. This is his time to shine. And so far he is taking the opportunity to, well, “run” with it.

All in all it is important to factor in, these are the Bengals. Playing without their starting QB at that. The team is in total dysfunction and from the ownership on down to the coaching staff they are rendering themselves incompetent. Chad Johnson at this point should be Ocho Stinko!

The Steelers can digest their effort on film over the next day or so and consider this a dress rehearsal for the upcoming games against actual NFL caliber teams run by quality ownership and management. So they should take this game with a grain of salt and get to work on locking down a plan to face the New York Giants as big blue rolls into Heinz Field this week. (Oct 27)

In the meantime the Steelers are a solid 5 and 1 and are a serious contender.

Andy is a blogger for http://www.Steelermaniacs.com which is a Pittsburgh Steeler’s fansite where fans can read Steeler’s news, join discussions, play in our flash arcade, shop, and much more.

Okay, your cat is missing. Naturally you are worried and want to find your pet as soon as you can. Keep in mind that cats do not usually leave home and most often a missing cat is found, but it is best to start your search as soon as you realize that your cat is not around.

Before you search the outside world make certain that your cat is not inside your home. Have you checked everywhere? The basement, loft space, that spare bedroom that never gets used, your shed and garage? How about closets? In the refrigerator, yes cats can become shut in refrigerators, you open the door to take something out and without you noticing your cat slips in. Check also your washing machine, dryer, anywhere at all that your cat could have slipped into.

Alright, you are certain that your cat is not on your property. Is your cat an “indoor” cat that has somehow got out? Then your pet is not likely to be far, sure she or he will be curious about all the new sights and smells and will likely take time to sample them.

On the other hand your pet could have been threatened and chased by a dog, another cat or some other animal. Search the area around your home. Look in neighbors sheds and garages, ask permission of course, and ask your neighbors to help you search.

Don’t forget to look up! Cats that are being chased tend to bolt up trees. They are extremely good at climbing up, you know this from your cat climbing your drapes, but because of the way they are designed, they are not so good at climbing down.

So there is your missing cat high in the branches, the threat has gone but your cat can’t climb down. Sure she may cry out, but maybe not. So look up trees just in case.

Look also in any small space that your cat could possibly squeeze into, and cats can squeeze into some very small spaces to get away from an attacker. Again don’t assume that your cat will cry out, even if you are calling her name. She may be very frightened and confused and prefer to stay where she is safe if she thinks that the whole world is her enemy, so you have to look, using a flashlight will help.

If your cat is an unaltered tomcat then he could have roamed a long ways off in pursuit of doing what comes naturally. He won’t come home until he has had his way, and sorry to say, as an un-neutered tom will think nothing of dashing across busy highways to get what he wants, there is the possibility he won’t make it home. This is only one of the many good reasons to have your cat, male or female, neutered.

If you are satisfied that your missing cat is nowhere close to your home you will need to widen your search. Enlist help. Also ask people who are regularly in the area, mail carriers, people who walk their dog, moms taking kids to school, if they have seen your cat.

Cats are often more active at night so that may be a good time for a search even in the places you’ve searched in the day. But don’t search alone at night.

Post flyers around the area that your pet was lost in, these can be very successful. Include a photograph of your missing cat and some information, but withhold some. Give your phone number but not your address. If you offer a reward do not state how much on the flyer. Don’t forget to regularly check that the flyers are still in place.

Why should you withhold some information? Because unfortunately there are lowlife that will claim to have found your cat, when they have not, for a chance of the finders reward. Never hand over reward money before you have your pet back safe and sound.

Check with cat rescue centers and shelters. Don’t wait to do this as many shelters are so overwhelmed with stray and feral cats that they can’t keep them long. Your cat may have been wearing identification, but tags, and indeed the collar itself can come off. Don’t just phone the shelters, visit them, your cat may be hard to identify from a description given over the phone.

Check with all local veterinarians too. It just might be that your missing cat has been injured and taken to a veterinarian’s office. You will also need to contact the highway department or any other agency that deals with road kills. It would be better to know if the worst has happened.

Have you, or any of your neighbors, had anything delivered to, or collected from, the home recently? It is not unknown for cats to investigate delivery vehicles and get taken away. Check with the delivery company just to make sure.

When you have searched everywhere for your missing cat, search everywhere again. Remember that, although sadly some cats are lost forever, most often a missing cat is found. But you must not give up hope too soon and keep searching. Likely your cat will be back with you before you know it.
