According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, this type of cancer is the most prevalent non-skin cancer in the United States. A man is diagnosed with prostate cancer every three minutes, and one dies every seventeen minutes. It is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men second to lung cancer. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that over 70% of diagnosed prostate cancer cases occur in men over the age of 65. These two organizations, as well as others are working toward increasing public awareness and making screenings more readily available to all populations. Research

In order to catch prostate cancer in its early stages, it is recommended that men with no risk factors get an annual screening every year beginning at age 50. If there is a relative, such as a father or brother who has been diagnosed, then the recommended age to begin prostate screening is 45. In men with at an even higher risk, such as African American men and those with a higher familial incidence, routing screening should begin at age 40. For many men, it may be more embarrassing than uncomfortable to initiate and undergo a rectal examination or blood PSA test.

Prostate cancer usually exhibits no symptoms and the only way it can be detected is through a rectal prostate exam or a blood PSA screening. The Prostate Cancer Foundation reports that if signs are present, they may be subtle and attributed to other causes, such as, painful or difficult urination, urinary frequency, painful ejaculation, difficulty obtaining an erection, blood in urine or semen, and pain or stiffness below the waist and above the knees.

There are different treatment regimens available for prostate cancer, such as hormonal treatment or chemotherapy, depending on to which stage the cancer has progressed, whether it is localized, recurrent, or metastatic. The physician may even recommend no treatment depending on the individual situation, and what the patient feels is best for him. A second or even third opinion should be sought regarding the diagnosis and proposed treatment plan, for peace of mind that whatever path chosen is the right one. Cancer can be very scary to many people, creating a great deal of stress. When newly diagnosed, patients may have difficulty expressing their thoughts and feelings to their physician as well as their loved ones, and they should be encouraged to seek spiritual and/or psychological counseling to help them accept the situation for what it is and deal with it in a healthy manner.

It is a well known fact that while we are young, we are allowed to eat whatever we want. So we eat to our hearts’ content. However, once we grow old and our body starts to function less effectively than when we were young, we have to start watching what we eat in order to stay healthy and avoid the diseases and illnesses that often plague older people. In this article we intend to introduce a plan to stay young – the anti-aging diet. This diet will help give you some idea of what you should and should not be eating in order to fight off the signs of aging and stay young longer.

The signs of aging not only include wrinkles, which are one of the more visible signs of aging, but also memory loss, decreased mental ability, and higher risk of diseases such as cardiac disease or cancer. Research has shown that there is a relationship between the type of diet and health levels as you age. In order to stay healthy for a longer period of your life, you need to eat the right foods in order to provide your body with the fuel to fight aging and its associated signs.

Certain types of food contain a substance known as phytonutrients. These phytonutrients are believed to hold the key to unlocking the secret of healthy aging and longevity. Phytonuntrients are antioxidants, and they help rid the body of ‘free radicals’, a type of particle that is extremely damaging to the body and plays a part in diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer’s. As we age, the body loses its natural ability to fight off free radicals, and we must employ the use of antioxidant supplements in order to help our body get rid of harmful free radicals so that we may stay healthy longer.

You should plan to add the following foods to your diet in order to increase the levels of antioxidants in your diet as well as to fight off the signs of aging.

You should eat fish at least twice a week, as fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which is a powerful anti-inflammatory that is highly beneficial for your health.

You should eat roughly 5 servings of colorful fruits and vegetables each day as they are rich in antioxidants and will are extremely helpful in the fight against aging.

You should include 2 to 3 servings of whole grains in your diet every day as they provide a large amount of phytonutrients and are also a good source of soluble fiber, which helps to lower your blood cholesterol levels.

Finally, you should remember to drink plenty of water every day as it is absolutely essential for hydration of your skin, muscles, and all the other cells of your body. Without water, dehydration would set in and your body would be unable to repair and replenish itself, and you would succumb to the signs of aging much faster than you would if you drank sufficient water each day.

Elixir Web Solutions is one of the Clinical Data Management Delhi outsourcing companies that works with researchers in India.

These companies give physicians the data solutions for the material that is collected for their study. India, today, is the hot spot for global clinical data management service based purely on the fact that there is an overwhelming presence of many different diseases in the country.

Among these diseases are malaria, cancer, AIDS, arthritis, and diabetes. There are also many other diseases that are able to be researched. Researchers have made India their hub for research due to the large number of participants for enrollment. In clinical data management Delhi development, investigative solutions are tested on the people of India. These solutions are not watched for what they are supposed to do but what they actually do on the participant. This is done without actually worrying about what the solution might do to the participant. The welfare of the person is not an importance to the actual research, it is important to the medical team but in order to do testing on a human life, you have to be prepared for the many side effects that could happen. Death being one of these side effects.

The importance of data and the human subject protection has been widely discussed over the last 50 years but making sure that the quality and usefulness of data from clinical trials is more important has received less attention. High quality data that is analyzed by professionals to use proper statistical techniques help medical physicians to make a right decision on rather the testing is proper. This program is planned to create awareness of actual processes involved in processing of data by Clinical Data Management & Biostatistics professional.

The clinical data management Delhi company of Elixir Web Solutions is capable of supplying tools for the clinical studies such as display & personalization, collaboration, content management, integration, and data analysis. This company begins their work with a very close interaction with their client in giving them the best solutions for their management.

The logic of using the India people as guinea pigs, may seem rather cruel to other people around the world, but India is a very impoverished land with very little employment for these people to be able to live properly. But if you think about it in the way that the subjects who participate in the global clinical data management research, get free treatment of their disease. They can leave this research at any time they want. The research would help these people to get the medical attention they require and it costs them nothing.

Did you know that 25% of all dogs develop arthritis or joint problems in the course of their lifetime? Actually, I didn’t know that until I looked it up. After realizing every dog I ever owned developed these problems, I decided to read up on it. We always gave our dogs the occasional doggy aspirin and the recommended Rymidal from the vets office, but I didn’t know that there was other products out there that could have help them.

Unfortunately our oldest dog a Lab/mix is now experiencing difficulty in jumping up on the couch and even standing up from lying on the kitchen floor. He was extremely overweight at one point, but we finally managed to control that with no table scraps, but it still remains hard to keep his weight down. I used to be able to walk him almost everyday, but the walks have become less and less frequent now that his arthritis has gotten worse.

I recently started our older guy on glucosamine/chondroitin supplement. That combination helped me with my knee when I use to run the track every Sunday morning, so I decided it couldn’t hurt to try a doggy glucosamine product to help him.

He isn’t much of a pill popper so I was happy to have found a formula that was liquid. Supplements in liquid form are absorbed better, but I really just wanted something simple since my dog always has a way of eating the pill pockets while dropping the pills on the floor.

The first week I really didn’t notice any difference. I don’t want to make it sound like the poor dog is crawling around on the floor. You can just tell that his legs are achy and stiff just by watching his movements and there was no difference. I’m not really sure if I noticed anything the second week either, but by the third week there really was improvement.

We have given him the glucosamine/chondroitin formula for over 3 months now and I’m just sorry that we didn’t start it sooner. He still takes his Rymadil, but we have not seen the need for any aspirin since we started the liquid glucosamine/chondroitin mix. His gait really has improved and I’m actually considering taking him out for some leisure walks once the heat wave breaks in our area.

If you have an older dog that is going through the aches and pains of leg stiffness and joint pain you just might want to look into giving your dog this supplement. It isn’t expensive and has really made a world of difference in our dogs quality of life.

One thing that I did learn and wished I had known sooner is that by giving younger dogs a glucosamine supplement you are actually helping prevent the onset of arthritis and joint pain before it even has a chance to start. Like most people who enjoy their pets they are like our children and we do want what is best for them. I just wish I had learned of these products sooner.

As a non-political/apolitical type its not in my nature to form particularly strong opinions when it comes to government matters, however yet again our UK system is letting the population down. Unless they do something pretty radical and step in I fear we’re heading for a denationalised health system where it’s “every man or woman for themselves”….. basically the wealthiest get to live, the rest can go fish.

A decision on the 4 main new kidney cancer drugs Avastin, Nexavar, Sutent and Torisel is due to be made by N.I.C.E at the beginning of 2009. Given how successful these drugs have been across the globe in extending the lifes of patients it would have seemed a no brainer decision for a so called developed western country like the UK. However a memo has been leaked suggesting that the decision will be negative and that these drugs are not cost effective and will not be available on the NHS. Can you imagine how devastating this news is to the 1700 people/year that are diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer.

I know we all hear the phrase “what’s the cost of a life?”, and we all equally know that this is impossible to quantify, however, lets step back a bit and look at what the NHS originally set out to achieve. I think the mission statement went something like this:

Everybody, irrespective of means, age, sex or occupation shall have equal opportunity to benefit from the best and most up-to-date medical and allied services available…free of charge

I may have got the quote wrong, however, your get the gist. So, we have clinically proven drugs, recommended by the top kidney cancer specialists in this country, used worldwide, especially in the US where they are prescribed as a matter of course. Yet somehow in the UK this idiotic group of people called N.I.C.E chose to ignore all that and put a cost on a human life at “Something under £30,000/year”

These people are beneath contempt and have no moral backbone, all probably with private health care cover and therefore will never have to suffer the indignity of having to fight for the right to a drug that will extend their lives …. Shame on them, and shame on the fools that set this group up in the first place. It should be run by those who have the interest of the patients at heart, not the pockets of the government accountants.

I was equally as outraged by the response from my local labour MP in Watford, Claire Ward who decided the best thing I could do was to contact Cancer Research as this wasn’t a government issue and was a decision for N.I.C.E and the PCTs…. Well heaven help us if this is how our elected MPs respond.

Im stuck in an airport at the moment but will write more on the subject and try and spread the word by using article sites as they seem to raise awareness.

I am however glad to see that the Times and the BBC wrote news items on this, they’re well worth checking out.

Andy Thomas (the author) was recently diagnosed with Kidney Cancer and has since setup a free wiki based resource to aggregate data on this subject. http://www.kidneycancerresource.com is packed full of information, videos, articles, media links and much more. This is a not-for-profit site
